Bug Description

Ubuntu 11.10

"ALT + circumflex" can be mapped in the keyboard settings despite being reserved for the new ALT + tab extended functionality, making it execute two functions at once with severe side effects (GUI freeze, but keys are still responsive -> key smashing during freeze results in possible destruction of user data).

Not sure what is the right way to fix those issues, it's likely to make g-c-c aware of the unity keybindings and have them integrated in the system settings dialog

This situation is very unfortunate for people using applications which need Alt+^ because it cannot be switched off (as far as I can see). I use Emacs, where Alt+^ is an important functionality. Besides, Alt+^ is of little help on small keyboards with Fn key.

So please make the Unity keybinding configurable.

Alt+Circumflex is used in Japanese IME for Windows to switch input mode. Had IBUS in 10.04 configured to use the same keys for activating Anthy. Having to relearn the keys has significant impact on productivity.

So please make the Unity keybinding configurable.

Workaround:
1. Install compizconfig-settings-manager
2. Run: ccsm
3. Explore the many options and remove/change the keyboard shortcuts that are conflicting.

The workaround *kinda* works. Here's how it did for me:
1. start ccsm
2. activate Ubuntu Unity Plugin -> Switcher -> Key to flip through the windows in the switcher. You will find this option is deactivated. Binding it will not unbind alt+circumflex right away
3. activate Application Switcher Plugin. Click through errors for doubly used bindings
4. play around with both plugins to no avail, notice how alt+circumflex can't be unbound
5. restart system and magically find key unbound
