Bug Description
1. Open Firefox.
2. Click on Edit>Preferences.
3. Click on any of the category buttons, for eg. "Applications", without moving the mouse after the button click, the menu will lag after being clicked unless you then move your cursor. If it doesn't lag, that may be because you moved the cursor, try several buttons to confirm behavior.
4. Click any JavaScipt button and the same behavior should be observed.
One thing that corrects this bug is running totem with either visual effects enabled or a video playing but if you pause the video or music then the bug reappears after a few seconds.
This bug did not appear until I replaced marco (fork of metacity) with compiz.
Mint 13 Maya (Ubuntu 12.04), compiz --version 0.9.7.12
video driver: fglrx 2:8.960-0ubuntu1.1
I've also noticed that running totem as described above fixes another newly discovered aspect of this bug, that my cursor on any terminal blinks inconsistently and that scrolling with my mouse wheel lags if I only scroll one notch at a time and that sometimes when I use the switch window shortcut, alt tab, it fails to switch.
To reiterate, playing audio with totem and with visual effects enabled in totem's preferences or playing a video with totem corrects all of the above.
Slight correction: if I play audio without visual effects enabled, the lag is only very slight whereas if I pause totem or don't run it at all, the lag can be up to about seven seconds provided that I don't move my mouse.
