apt-get crashes when asked to install 'python-setuptools'

I need two pieces of information to help you:

1) What kind of machine did you use to connect to your amazon instance?
Was it running ubuntu, os x or windows?

2) Could you run the following on your amazon machine:

$ locale

Also, if your machine is either linux or os x, could you run that command on it as well and paste the results to this bug?

Thanks for your reply and sorry for a delayed reply from my part. Unfortunately I'm currently unable to repeat the bug but here are the details that you requested. I think they are correct though I've been mocking around with locales lately.

I connected from OS X.
