Cannot register unit in juju2 environment

Bug Description
It looks like the charm depends on the juju1 env var JUJU_ENV_UUID, but in a juju2 context, it's not present [1].
The JUJU_MODEL_UUID env var may be the equivalent in juju2 land, in which case, the fix should be trivial.

I've linked a branch, but note my one concern there in the description. Perhaps this is something specific to my juju2 env, though I don't see from the code how.
