Bug Description

Running the standard Caliber for Ubuntu 16, which is Calibre 2.55. Now after an operation such as putting a book on 'device' or "Update cached metadata on device", the Kindle is ejected and thus needs to be unplugged and then plugged in. This has just started happening after a system update. The system update did not change Calibre however, I remember some portion of python was updated. A test system running Ubuntu 18 with it's standard Calibre 3.21, continues to work as expected.

Note that this is fixed in current versions of calibre, and that you
undoubtedly did a kernel update, but Ubuntu's old, end of life, unsupported
version of calibre was not updated with the fix. In short, this is...

I brought down a copy of Calibre 3.21 - it too had the problem. After reading about but 1834641, I tried version 3.48 of Calibre. The problem disappeared. Thanks for your quick response. I plan now to replace the Ubuntu 16 standard of Calibre with version 3.48.

You're welcome. :)

Currently, the beta for version 4.0 is in progress, see:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322850

So interesting times are ahead anyway, and if you're using the latest
versions (available on Ubuntu by downloading the binary releases from
the calibre website) you can take advantage of that, so this may be a
good thing for you anyway. :)

calibre 4.x comes with a revamped ebook-viewer among other things. Plus
many other great features introduced after 2.55 (3 years worth of changes).

Check out https://calibre-ebook.com/whats-new and
https://calibre-ebook.com/new-in/twelve for details. ;)
