Bug Description

A recent update to caffeine appears to block all notification bubbles generated via libnotify, though curiously not confirmation bubbles (e.g. volume increase/decrease, mute, etc.).

I am currently running the latest version of caffeine (on Natty) as provided for by the official stable caffeine PPA. Synaptic reports this as version 2.2+386~natty1.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install the latest version of Caffeine (2.2+386~natty1).
2. Disable screensaver (with Caffeine, of course)
3. Open a terminal window and run the following command: notify-send "Test"
4. Note the lack of a notification bubble
5. Enable screensaver (again with Caffeine)
6. Run the above command (in a terminal) again.
7. Note the presence of a notification bubble (confirming that the command does indeed work)

Whoops! It appears that this bug is a duplicate of an older bug (#593649) already on file. I've marked this as a duplicate, but I am frankly amazed that, that bug is tagged as WontFix.

If this isn't fixed soon Caffeine will become a hindrance to my work-flow. I use Caffeine at work to prevent my office laptop from entering suspension when I'm in the laboratory, and I typically leave caffeine in a 'disable screensaver' state all day long, even when I'm at my desk working. So I'm missing a lot of potentially useful (though apparently not critical) notifications!

I'm afraid we're really just following the specification. If you think this should be changed, I would suggest bringing it up with the Ayatana mailing list (honestly, I'm not sure if that's the right place, but they may be able to point you in the right direction at least) to get the specification changed.
