You've identified quite a worthwhile bug there, but I think making it
configurable is not the best fix. The new users most likely to be
confused by this are the ones least likely to explore configuration.

(If we did want configuration we could simply make it remember the last state.)

Perhaps we can instead show, under headings, both some bookmarks and
some recent locations?

That's definitely a separate bug.

That is an excellent solution in my opinion. It solves the main issue and is consistent with many Windows applications.

Greg, there are too much problems and wishlists for one bug report. Let's try to split them into smaller chunks so we can eat the elephant easily:

1) Show either bookmarks or recently opened -- I'd prefer to remember the last tab. It's easy to implement and to grasp, IMO. Another solution is to show both in splitted window.

2) Need action to clean recently opened list.

3) Welcome screen is overloaded with options and info.

All these items are separate issues, and can be addressed separately. I prefer to have 3 separate bug reports for each issue.
