Bug Description
I clicked on sound icon (upper right corner of screen in Unity), then sound settings, to test my soundcard as mostly, I'm not getting any sound. The only time it starts working, is when I do some update, and I notice in the log that an HDMI hot plug event has occured, then sound test is successful. Upon reboot, sound test fails again. Do you know of how I can do this "HDMI hot plug event" as a work around?

I'm running 12.04, gnome-shell installed, I have an ATI Radeon 3850 graphics card, HDMI from this to Vizio 47" TV/monitor should give me both sound & video (sometimes it does, Ubuntu 11.04 works) some lshw info:

cat /proc/asound/

I tried adding the following line to /etc/modprobe.
options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-digout
then, sudo alsa force-reload gives:
Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: snd-hda-codec-hdmi snd-hda-
Loading ALSA sound driver modules: snd-hda-codec-hdmi snd-hda-
still no sound.
alsactl -v gives:
alsactl version 1.0.25
tried installing driver from AMD website: amd-driver-
still no sound.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think this can be closed. If I unplug my HDMI cable, and plug it back in the sound works. Doooough! HOMER!
