Bug Description

My Huawei E173 USB modem (issued by Peruvian Movistar) is not detected by NetworkManager. I eventually manged to make it work using couple of hackish workarounds (including downloading a proprietary driver from some forum i googled out) but I believe it should work out of the box, so I'm reporting this as a bug.

The modem is identified by lsusb as

Bus 001 Device 017: ID 12d1:1c24 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

I'm using Ubuntu 11.10.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/970871/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Hello,

would you care to explain why do you think this is not a bug? I'm not looking for links to workarounds, since I've already found one (as I mentioned in the bug report). I simply think this should work out of the box without any workarounds, so I think it is a bug.
