I cannot hear sound from my fresh ubuntu install.

Sound is working correctly using 11.10 live CD.

Here is the apport report for the *working* sound using 11.10 live CD (no update).

Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) reached end-of-life on May 9, 2013.
