Mintinstall not showing icons and can't install

Bug Description
Mint 12 KDE. Starting mintinstall from the KDEMenu ("Software Manager") launches, but some of the icons for different software categories are not displayed. Also, selecting a software package does not show information about the package, so I can't install anything. I can only get it to run if I launch as "sudo mintinstall" or use synaptic.
