Bug Description

I tried to install ubuntu 12.04 A1 on my system, but the system hanged each time, using the F2 key during the install/boot process, I narrowed it down to the b43 wireless driver. So at the primary install page via the F6 key, I used:

b43.blacklist=yes

I then proceeded to install the system, which failed on first boot, so I used the same command within GRUB and then added blacklist b43 to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Was there a better way to do this?

P.S. On the original F2 listings, I noticed that the system reported that the b43 firmware wasn't available and then it would hang.

Booting from liveCD or fresh install using alternate CD hangs with error:

  b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43/ucode5.fw" not found
  b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43-open/ucode5.fw" not found
  b43-phy0 ERROR: You must go to http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and download the correct firmware for this driver version. Please carefull read all instructions on this website.

So currently is not possible to install 12.04 on systems with Broadcom wireless (without blacklisting b43).

If you manage to blacklist b43, then install firmware-b43-installer and problem is fixed.

Using the daily Ubuntu live from April 17th.
Same problem as reported here.

I have this card in my Presario C700:
 Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [14e4:4311] (rev 02)

In previous versions of Ubuntu, I could go to the restricted drivers utility, and select a b43 driver that actually worked, but now all I see is a STA driver, and it doesn't work.

Getting this wireless card to work, is more involved that it once was; I'm going to have to fool with it more tomorrow (it is bed time now). Why isn't this as easy as it once was (here in 12.04)?

i just downloaded ubuntu 12.04 LTS
and during installation i got this problem
