We should always avoid having a default asound state from the first
boot. Ideally the default values from the driver should help already
having the mixer with the correct values.

If not, then at least UCM might help in here.

Hi,

I've test
linaro-o-ubuntu-desktop-tar-20111121-0.tar.gz + hwpack_linaro-lt-mx5_20111123-1_armel_supported.tar.gz
on releases.linaro.org

And
linaro-o-ubuntu-desktop-tar-20111212-0.tar.gz + hwpack_linaro-lt-mx5_20111212-0_armel_supported.tar.gz
on snapshots.linaro.org

speaker-test just output some noises.
And aplay also works with wav files.

Can you confirm that this is a bug or actually a false report?

Hi Tom,

Can you help to confirm this a regression or it might be hardware issues?
You should have some old versions that works, but the new version doesn't work.

Hi Paul,

I've checked today's ubuntu-desktop 1220 build and today's imx lt hwpack there is indeed no sound. As I don't keep old copies of hardware packs and desktops around it's hard to back up.

Let's please focus with the current hwpack for the 11.12 release and the new ubuntu-desktop for 11.12. Wei please get involved as this version includes the new UCM support of yours that does include support for this board.

Richard,

What version of hwpack and rootfs are you using? What are you using for sound output ? Sound via HDMI or via the audio jack which is located right next to the power input?

Thanks!
Tom

I would rather add hdmi card ucm configuration for i.mx53qs instead of pa profile configs. But another problem is can hdmi work on mx53?

The last direction I had from the landing team was that for imx53 the default is VGA video NOT HDMI, HDMI was considered to be secondary video source. When I tested it in 11.12 HDMI video did not work.

We need 2 things:

1) Is HDMI video now supposed to be considered the primary video source for imx53 QS.

2) is the LT saying that audio output via the audio jack is not supported?

3) If video out is via VGA (and HDMI is NOT connected) shouldn't audio out via the audio jack work?

Ideally HDMI would be considered as the primary video source, but QS
is a quite special case, as HDMI only works with the extension board
(and we can't assume everybody has it).

On the video output side, we can just have the following use case:
1) No extension board -> VGA primary
2) With extension board -> HDMI primary

I believe it's supported, or at least should be. Unfortunately can't
test it on my board as the jack is broken (hw).

Can we automatically detect this and enable jack in case the HDMI
(extension board) is not connected?

Feng Wei (b34248) wrote :

It's supported actually, when we change the default sink by "pacmd set-default-sink 1", it works, but not very stable. I run speaker-test for several times, sometimes an
"Write error: -5,Input/output error
xrun_recovery failed: -5,Input/output error" occurred.

> Can we automatically detect this and enable jack in case the HDMI
> (extension board) is not connected?
I think so, but it need jack detection mechanism in pulseaudio, it's really new feature and is upgrading. I can enable the priority property in ucm configs, so that we can set the default sink staticly before jack detection stuffs work.

BTW, I also found a bug when we restart the board, not "shutdown/powerup", but by push down restart button on the board. There's an error as Tom filled at #11. But when shutdown and power up, the issue is gone.

Using the Jan 16th hwpack and Jan 16th linaro-ubuntu-desktop I tried two variations with sound.

1) vga video and audio over the jack. No HDMI daughter board was connected. aplay works. No adjustments necessary. The ubuntu startup sound did not play. I think we can ignore that for the time being.

2) connecting the hdmi daughter board. No hdmi video or audio was emitted.

I would ike to suggest since the VGA + audio jack route works. This bug should be closed. A separate bug should be opened for the hdmi audio and video issue.

Does the jack also work when the hdmi board/monitor is connected?

Otherwise I also agree we should have another bug for hdmi-only.
