It's not a problem of icons, it's a problem of the primitive code not setting proper icon sizes.

Sergey, that's only half-true. I think that icons in the -symbolic namespace are only supposed to be 16px. Ideally they would scale properly, but I've committed a fix by only putting 16px -symbolic icons

in gnome-shell 3.3.5, it use their icons in notification.

but totem 3.3.4 still has this problem.
