When I start typing a contact name in the "To" box, It seems like the auto completion is not working, but after +/-30 sec the auto completion works and the email adress is completed.
During this period it is still possibl e to continue typing the email adress (or do other things), the evolution itself does not hang.

I have a similar experience, although evolution does not *really* hang, as I can continue typing the email adress.
If I wait for a while (might be about 30 seconds yes), the contact is found and the emailadress is completed.
Is this the same for you, or does evolution really hang (and you are unable to continue typing) while looking up the contacts?
