Bug Description
On April 23rd I did an upgrade from kubuntu 10.10 to 11.04 Beta2 which basically worked.
After reboot I logged in via KDM. The KDE splash screen was shown but never disappeared. Via console (Ctrl + Alt + F1) I found out that kde was fully running.
After switching back to KDE (Ctrl + Alt + F7) there was a black screen and the mouse pointer.
Via console I installed ubuntu-desktop which works flawlessly (Classic mode). I found out that the error was caused by activated desktop effects which are not working because the proprietary nvidia drivers were removed during the upgrade process. Via system settings (opened in gnome classic desktop) I deaktivated the desktop effects. After that I could successfully use KDE again.

This is also a problem in the full 11.04 release.
I have a Dell E1505 laptop with Nvidia graphics.
