Bug Description

Binary package hint: vlc

I just upgraded my system from 10.04 to 10.10 today, and noticed some problems playing
a DVD with vlc.

After initially playing audio successfully in some of the initial setup screens & DVD menu, after starting the
movie the audio output stops and the following output appears in the terminal where VLC was run:

[0x100ea80] pulse audio output error: Invalid number of channels

I was able to play the movie with audio successfully in gxine, and have not otherwise noticed any
problem with audio, so I expect the problem is in vlc itself. I did notice some other non-audio
oddnesses in vlc behavior: it seemed to use an incorrect narrow aspect ration for all the initial
screens until I started the playback of the movie itself (clicking on 'play' in the DVD on-screen menu).
(Just in case it helps, the movie was Woddy Allen's 'You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger'.)

I've attached the output from running 'vlc --verbose=2 dvd:// &' and starting the movie from
the menu screen.

Uninstalling and re-installing vlc & related components did not help the problem.

Hmm, so the problem is A/52 audio with 3 channels. The VLC 1.1 PulseAudio output does not support 3 channels (only 1, 2, 4, 5.1 and 7.1).

Changed in vlc:
milestone: 1.2.0 → 1.1.10

It was fixed in VLC 1.1.10-1ubuntu1 in Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric).
