Selection highlight stays after cuting and pasting text

When you select a piece of text and wait long enough for other occurrences of this string to be highlighted, then cut it and paste it somewhere else, the text is pasted with the highlighted style. The style is then rather difficult to get rid of, e.g. pressing Esc doesn't work. The only way seems to be by selecting something else or the same string again and then hitting Esc.
