Bug Description
Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager
At work, I have a laptop dock (for my Lenovo Thinkpad T410s) with two external monitors connected and AC power cord connected. When I dock the laptop, the laptop's screen turns off and only the two external monitors are used. I would like to be able to dock my laptop and close the lid, but that also blanks screen.
The Power Management Preferences dialog gives only the choices of "Blank screen", "Suspend" and "Shutdown" when the laptop lid is closed. It would be nice to have a way to say "do nothing".
Even better would be for the power manager to realize that external screens are in use and not blank the screen in that case only, if the lid close action is set to "blank screen".

Yes, power manager should definitely be aware of the external display and not blank it when the laptop's lid is closed. Using a laptop with external display and keyboard etc. is very common use case.
