expected behaviour: functioning shell which allows other programmes to run without disturbing cplay.

There shouldn't be a version that stops playing when shell is used. The version 1.49 does have a bug that crashes the cplay when !shell is used, but this is fixed now. Note that if you have a long running external command, then cplay won't progress to the next track if it's still waiting for the shell to finish.

Assuming this report is about the crash using shell. If the long running command is the problem for you, please reopen. But note that the shell isn't meant for such use and it will be given quite a low priority.

This bug has been marked as Fix Committed for over a year. If the fix has made it into Ubuntu, please mark this bug as Fix Released. If the fix has been released upstream, but not Ubuntu, create a new bug asking for the new version and tag it with upgrade-software-version. If this bug has not been fixed anywhere, change the status back to Confirmed.
