CPUFreq app does not display txt to the right CPUSpeed or Percent

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

I have tested this both at home and at work and I can not get CPUFreq Scaling Applet to display text to the right of its icon on the Gnome Menu bar. It will not display as a frequency or percentage. Please advise.
