Binary package hint: cloud-init
the update-
This is bad for 2 reasons:
a.) on ec2, this is not going to work (unless the core.img was a pv-grub2 , which does not exist)
b.) if grub was intalled and configured before grub2 in original installation, there will not be a stanza in the menu.lst file, but then a later call to update-
Since its pointless, I'll just comment it out.
