Bug Description

When using the "Simple Selection Tool" a small preview is presented (which includes X and Y coordinates along with the size of the selection). It should be possible to use the arrow keys to position the start and end points. On a large display, it is somewhat tricky to try and get these points perfect (and the preview is therefore of limited use IMHO). Other tools (such as MWSnap of Windows) allow the arrow keys to be use for such purposes.

Using the "Advanced Selection Tool" is not an option?

I couldn't find a way to actually move the cursor prior to the selection being made with the Advanced Selection Tool either. There is "Alt+Cursor Keys" to move an existing selection. Let me know if I am missing something.

Well there is at least "Ctrl+Cursor keys" to move the end points of the selection. You suggest another shortcut to move the start points, right?

Btw, I've just noticed that values in the preview window doesn't change when using the keyboard -> that's a bug!

Hi Mario. Thanks for your feedback. Yes, the "Ctrl+Cursor keys" option allows you to define the end point exactly - however, at present there is an issue with regard to getting the starting location exact. If there is some support that could be added for this, this would be appreciated. In my experience, it was difficult to get the starting position exact on a 1920x1200 monitor (I could *see* that I was off in the preview but couldn't do anything about it!). Can I suggest that the arrow keys (without any modifiers) be used to position the pointer prior to the selection being started. Also, if a keypress could be used to also start the selection (in addition to the left mouse button). Otherwise it could be possible to move the mouse cursor when attempting to left click once the starting point has been positioned exactly with the keyboard - thus defeating the point of using the keyboard in the first instance. Many Thanks, Patrick

Confirmed. Shouldn't be too hard to implement.

Btw, you can also zoom when using the Advanced Selection Tool (Ctrl+Mousewheel). This should help to get the exact starting point as well.

Thanks Mario - Have had a browse through the patch and it looks good :-) I don't have Shutter compiled from source on my box at present. Let me know if/when it's accepted and I'll add the PPA to beta test.
