Bug Description
When /etc/environment is not a valid variable declarations file, install-info can't be configured properly. This isn't a bug in texinfo, once /etc/environment is corrected, install-info can be configured as expected.

The suggestion is that the /etc/environment file is broken in some way. This is mine - in what way is this broken?
user@hostname:/etc$ cat environment usr/local/ sbin:/usr/ local/bin: /usr/sbin: /usr/bin: /sbin:/ bin:/usr/ games:/ opt/Adobe/ Reader8/ bin:/opt/ Adobe/Reader8/ Reader/ intellinux/ bin"
PATH="/
LANG="en_GB.UTF-8"
LANGUAGE="en_GB:en"
LC_ALL ="en_GB.UTF-8"
I have also checked the permissions:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 205 2010-10-05 18:25 environment
I added to the path statement some months ago and this did not appear to cause any problems at the time.
Am I missing something here, or is it the case that the installer attempted to access the file in a non-legal manner?
(Curiously, when I attempted to attach the environment file, Launchpad complained "Cannot upload empty file" - although it is not empty and is listable [see above] is this significant?)
