I am also seeing this crash on an ASUS EeePC 900 netbook that doesn't even HAVE a webcam (built-in or external).

I just discovered that if I open a terminal and open linphonec, I can register to my sip account and make a call. Furthermore, after I have done that and exited from linphonec, the linphone-3 graphical app will open and register to my sip account. HOWEVER when I ran it just now the application did not have any window manager widgets -- no title bar, no resize control, etc. I didn't try to make a call but it looked like it was working.

Well, I can launch it normally with web camera disconnected. However I'm using Twinkle and it works perfectly. Thus, if noone will handle this bug, use twinkle.

I found the same bug reported against the same version 3.2.1 in Debian http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=580806

Debian sid has the 3.3.1 version packaged, so I presume it will be in the lucid+1 repository. I am eager to test the new version to see if this is fixed.

I am finding that after I have successfully launched linphone using the command line, it works perfectly when launched from GNOME, as long as I don't attempt to turn on the webcam feature. I presume the cli versions successfully write whatever linphone needs in the user directory and the GUI can launch. I used linphone when traveling in Europe recently and did not have a problem with it.

(Twinkle is fine, but unfortunately it doesn't have a dtmf numeric keypad so I can't use it to retrieve my voice mail, and also its dialogs are too tall to use easily on my netbook. I just added linphone-3 to the maximus exclusion list using gconf-editor, and I find it much more netbook-compatible than twinkle.)

I just had a chance to try Linphone 3.3.2 in Precise (3.3.2-4.1ubuntu1) and it seems to launch perfectly. Marking this as "fix released" in Ubuntu.
