Binary package hint: gnome-app-install
I tried to install an application with gnome-app-install while update-manager was downloading software (downloading with gui, not in the background). After pressing OK in g-a-i, g-a-i dissapeared.

To be excactly: g-a-i doesn't crash. synaptic, that is used for the installation part closed itself, since it could not lock the package database - because of the running update-manager. gksu doesn't return the error exit state of synaptic.
