Bug Description
Binary package hint: network-manager
This is reproducible on all live desktop environments. I have reproduced this bug on hardware and in VirtualBox.
RELEASE: Lucid Lynx
CD/DVD VARIANT: 32bit and 64bit Desktop Ubuntu and Xubuntu
ISO BUILD: Xubuntu 2010-03-16.1 and Ubuntu 2010-03-16
SYMPTOMS: Adding a manual IP address to network manager after the live environment is started, hitting enter results in X restarting. You must then login to GDM and start over adding the static IP. It will now work normally without the restart.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Boot the desktop CD, choosing "Try before installing" from the menu
2. After the live desktop in up, right-click the network-manager icon in the panel, left-click "Edit connections... "
3. Left-clcik on "Add"
4. Left-click on "IPv4 Settings"
5. Left-click on "Automatic (DHCP), Left-clickj on "Manual"
6. Left-click on Add
7. Type in an IP address, in the Address column
8. Hit Enter on the keyboard
9. Observe X restarting
10. At the GDM login prompt, enter ubuntu for the user-name, hit enter for the password
11. When the live desktop comes up, repeat steps 2-8
