Bug Description
I would like to propose a new effect, which should be relative easy to apply as a similar behavior is already available in edit mode, but not applied to the image itself.
Apply a darkening (transparent) layer on top of the whole image and provide a select tool (box) to cut out regions, where the original image is shown.
This hilighting tool should be a good alternative to applying color-boxes around objects to hilight.

That would be really helpful. Red boxes are nice but often too obtrusive; dimming out uninteresting parts of a screenshot would be perfect.
Ideal workflow for my own use case (YMMV):
a) Configure the overall dimming (i.e. an alpha value - not sure that there's a use case for color here)
b) Apply the dimming when the first box is drawn. Alpha value for box interior replaces alpha value of dimming.
c) More boxes just cut out.
d) Allow per-picture dimming.
