Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

When I launch Firefox in 9.10 and 10.4 alpha the browser launches and is immediately available. However, the cursor remains round (system busy) as if it continues to load something. I can type URL and use menus despite the busy cursor. Launching subsequent browser windows exhibit the same behavior. Doesn't happen with Chrome.

Forgot to add, both 9.10 and 10.4 were 64 bit versions.

Thank you for taking the time to report this to Ubuntu. Could you please answer a few questions for us?

1. What versions of Firefox are you running in each version of Ubuntu?
2. I'm assuming that you were experiencing this bug on two separate machines, one with Ubuntu 9.10 and one with Ubuntu 10.04. Is this correct?

Once you answer these questions, we'll have a better idea of how to approach this bug. Thanks!

Sure, here are some more details.
1. Used to be Firefox 3.5.x. Now 3.6. This behavior occurs on both versions
2. Correct.

I recently found out that launching software management front-ends exhibits same behavior.
Is it because CouchDB is being launched in the background?

It's not a show stopper, just an annoyance, so please mark this bug as low priority.

They could be related, but I would appreciate it if you could try something for us first. Could you please try to reproduce this bug with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to test. If this helps, you might want to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic one.

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager

I have not been able to reproduce this bug on my 64-bit 10.04 system, so I'm wondering if it could just be an add-on. If we determine this to be a legitimate bug, then I will set the status. Until then, I want to keep the importance and status as is so this report doesn't get mixed in with triaged reports.

Have reproduced it with the new profile with no extensions.

I have one more observation - this behavior is almost always accompanied by a second taskbar item "Starting Firefox Web Browser".
Once the "Starting Firefox Web Browser" disappears, the cursor becomes normal.

I am starting to believe it's by design?
