Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

A cdrom only upgrade from karmic to lucid fails with:
ubuntu-desktop: Depends: libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio but it is not going to be installed

It appears that the problem is that -pulseaudio on the CD conflicts with the -alsa on the
system. The new -alsa is not on the CD and because libsdl1.2debian-alsa has a higher
score (2 vs 3) apt decides to keep it instead of removing it.

libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio in lucid already has Conflicts/Replaces going the other way, against libsdl1.2debian-alsa, so I don't see anything we can improve there. The libsdl1.2debian-alsa in lucid also still has a Conflicts against libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio, so adding -alsa to the CD won't change anything here. Do you have a recommendation for how we could fix this directly in libsdl1.2?

It looks like its enough to have libsdl1.2debian on the CD to get rid of the error. Given that its tiny I just seed it.

I uploaded a seeds update the other day that fixes this bug for me. I can now upgrade from hardy to lucid with cdrom and no network.

When I run update-manager to upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 (adm64) I still get the following:

I had the same problem as Renato Rosa, also on amd64. It tried first with libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio installed, and then with -pulsaudio removed but -alsa installed. This is not through a cd upgrade though, but with the normal update manager over the internet. It turns out that the problem is caused by also having xubuntu-desktop installed (which I had installed next to ubuntu-desktop). Once I removed xubuntu-desktop (but not any of the packages it depends upon), the problem was resolved. I'll check if I can reinstall xubuntu-desktop again after the upgrade.
