Bug Description
Select text during renaming a file with F2 command, then press Ctrl-C on the selected text. This command copies the FILE instead of the selected text. I am not sure if this is a bug or a design specification. On other OS's, usually this Ctrl-C action should copy the selected text.
I guess this is in the nautilus package. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for your bug. That works fine for me. Pressing F2, then Ctrl-C, then Ctrl-V to a text entry copy the text. What version of Ubuntu do you use? What nautilus mode?
