I can confirm this. Here's the shell's output: http://paste2.org/p/601185 . Nothing very helpful, i would say...
Using OpenShot 1.0 in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, openshot-mlt 0.4.3-1 and python-mlt 1.0-1.

Strange that's you used openshot-mlt instead of mlt in the version 0.44 present in the officiel repositorie.
Check all your dependencies like here : http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=33
Me i have some news to post and after i test that.
Thanks Olivier

I would suggest removing all of the DEB packages you installed, and then
install from our PPA (since you are using Karmic). Good luck.

I've been able to reproduce this every time on my Karmic 32 bit install. This install has the SDL problem with the squished up video, so it's generally unusable, but I can at least add other effects without getting this segmentation fault.

@Papy & @Daniel Rodrigues, are you running 32 or 64 bit?

It seems that Kdenlive have this effect as blacklisted due to it crashing, so maybe we should remove this one for now.

Me i'm on a karmic 64 bits and i always use the PPA and that's right that's
we have always less issues with the ppa with the dependencies (mlt, sdl,
ffmpeg). Strange issues..

We should remove this effect, it is removed from the next frei0r release due to it's instability.
