Bug Description

tightvnc crashed a lot under 9.04 when starting firefox, and I believe it depended on the content of the pages visited;
it was irritating and avoidable -- I no longer browse while using tightvnc.

Now in 9.10 I am also getting crashes just by editing files using vi, under an xterm. This is too common a task to avoid.

I submitted a patch to the author of tightvnc over a year ago, which was incorporated into tightvnc 1.3.10. This patch corrected a number of problems with how 64-bit values were handled. I'm very surprised Ubuntu is still on 1.3.9 after a full year.

I am having problems in Ubuntu Server 12.04. When opening more than one matlab instance, the VNC server dies and it is not recoverable. The problem seems related to this bug report.

It's been >4 years with a known problem with 1.3.9 and both a patch for the problem and a newer working version (1.3.10).

Who is in charge of maintaining the tightvnc package? This should, at least, be upgraded for 14.04!

I attach the previously mentioned patch here.

The attachment "vnc_unixsrc.diff" seems to be a patch. If it isn't, please remove the "patch" flag from the attachment, remove the "patch" tag, and if you are a member of the ~ubuntu-reviewers, unsubscribe the team.
