Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Using the program http://files.gokgs.com/javaBin/cgoban.jnlp , whenever I open a file dialog (eg save as during a match or something similar) the window from where the dialog was opened, disappears from the gnome-panel. You can alt-tab to the window and minimise it to have it show again on the taskbar.

Im using Ubuntu 9.04

uname -a :
Linux chris-linux 2.6.28-13-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 30 22:12:12 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

and

java -version :
java version "1.6.0_0"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.4.1) (6b14-1.4.1-0ubuntu11)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.0-b08, mixed mode)

OK so on karmic the problem is slightly less. The window disappears from the panel, when a dialog is present, but reappears when the dialog is done.

I've seen similar problem with other java applications (Intellij IDEA) too. At some point java app disappears from the panel. Seen both on Jaunty and Karmic.

I have the same problem on Karmic with Intellij IDEA.

uname -a
Linux user-desktop 2.6.31-17-generic-pae #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 17:23:29 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

java -version
java version "1.6.0_16"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_16-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 14.2-b01, mixed mode)

But it seems that Netbeans IDE is working fine. Both using Swing.

Same problem over here, on Karmic with Matlab and with Weka (a Java data mining tool). The windows are not listed in gnome-panel, until I click the "click here to minimize all button" in the gnome-panel.

The problem with Intellij IDEA occurs only if more than one instance is opened at the same time. If only one unstance is opened, then everything works fine.

Vadim, you are not quite right. The same problem reproduced when there is only one instance of Idea, but more than one window, for example: when you openning Diff window in addition to main IDE window.

Sorry, Vitaliy, I didn't test such use case.

Running Adempiere
This program open several windows - every window opened appears in the gnome-panel.
When opening a dialog box - all the windows disappear but one, and when closing the dialog, this window also disappear from the gnome-panel.
Navigating with alt-tab and minimizing restore the gnome-panel as suggested above.
