Bug Description
Binary package hint: latex-xft-fonts
When latex-xft-fonts is installed, Matlab is no longer able to render latex texts in plots. All mathematical symbols come out wrong when latex interpreter is used.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log shows these relevant lines:
FreeType: couldn't find encoding 'fontspecific-0' for '/var/lib/

Obviously, this could also be a Matlab bug. I'm using Matlab R2009a and Karmic release candidate, both 64 bit.
