Bug Description

On two computers I have shared home directories (not NFS mounted). Computer 2 had ubuntu-one installed last week with no active subscription, and this week I setup Computer 1 with ubuntu-one after receiving a subscription with no initial problems syncing files. In between using computer 1 and 2 (with the shared home directories) I installed on Computer 3 (completely independent, NFS home mounted) and made some changes to My Files.

Upon booting computer 2, the ubuntu-one applet icon was perpetually stuck in "working", apparently aware of the subscription through some configuration persisting on the shared home directory, but still somehow confused. Errors can be seen in syncdaemon-exceptions.log.2009-07-28_05-57-49

2009-07-27 14:17:46,756 - ubuntuone.SyncDaemon.ActionQueue - ERROR - upload share:'' node:'603d908a-e30d-4cf7-9163-7f367dfee642' upload(node="'603d908a-e30d-4cf7-9163-7f367dfee642'", hash="'sha1:5e33f412ce043a911952f99052802b0c6d3a902d'", fileobj_factory='<bound method FSKey.open_file of <ubuntuone.syncdaemon.sync.FSKey object at 0x2e84690>>', share="''", crc32='2717864843L', previous_hash="'sha1:da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709'", size='789') failure INTERNAL_ERROR

Unfortunately the debug logging was not turned on yet (this was the first use on this machine). Selecting quit from the applet did not terminate the sycn daemon, so I had to additionally kill the syncdaemon process before turning debug logging on and successfully restarting.

Upon restarting, there one one ERROR which seems expected after the kill,
2009-07-28 07:59:01,939 - ubuntuone.SyncDaemon.ActionQueue - ERROR - list_shares share:--- node:--- list_shares() failure Connection to the other side was lost in a non-clean fashion: Connection lost.

Everything appeared fine at this point, however my files did not sync to the server. A quick touch in My Files locally created a file, which appeared on the server, however none of the other files synced, including files deleted and added on Computer 3.

Attached are the logs, showing no errors in syncdaemon, and a screenshot clearly showing the new file "eight.txt" on both client and server, however the remaining server side file list (which is accurate and should appear locally) did not sync back to the client.

Should also be noted that another ubuntu-one client (Computer 3) was active/idle while these sync issues were discovered.

Using 0.91.0+r100-0ubuntu1~ppa1~jaunty with r0.91.0+r54-0ubuntu1~ppa1~jaunty storageprotocol from PPA.

Thanks for trying Ubuntu One.

This looks like a server problem.

iMac, I'm trying to follow up on old bugs marked "High" and was wondering if you were still seeing this issue? It's a hard one to try to reproduce and we've made many, many improvements since this bug report was filed. I'm going to mark as Incomplete unless you are still experiencing this problem. Thank you, Joshua

Yes, I have this flagged

I also need to recreate this environment as I have moved away from the broken setup.

I'll work towards staging and retesting in the next day or so

Cheers,
Ian

Apologies for lack of testing this; I think moving to invalid is a good idea for now. I now believe my scenario is linked to https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-client/+bug/387308 .. one or more of these systems is frequently behind a transparent squid proxy so I suspect this is probably going to continue to be an issue. Between my NFS home mounts and various locations running transparent squid proxies, my problems are going to continue to be related to other open issue for the time being.
