Bug Description

Binary package hint: mbrowse

In 0.3.1-7:
Function `gtk_text_new' implicitly converted to pointer at interface.c:462
Function `gtk_text_new' implicitly converted to pointer at details.c:422

Our automated build log filter[1] detected the problem(s) above that will
likely cause your package to segfault on 64-bit architectures (where the
size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer.)

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.
For more information, see [2].

Since use of implicitly converted pointers is always (eventually
and/or itermittantly) fatal to the application, they are errors.
Please correct them for your next upload.

This package was orphaned in Debian, and has been removed. I think Ubuntu should follow suit. The package has no revdeps.

This is annoying. I used to use mbrowse quite a lot, and just noticed today after upgrading to karmic that it has vanished. The only other graphical MIB browser available is tkmib, which is graphically very, very dated and quite horrible to use. Mbrowse was much better.

I don't understand the rationale for removing this. Why not fix the 64 bit issue rather than removing the package altogether?!

btw, I don't think tkmib is a better alternative...

I miss mbrowse, even though it is not exactly a polished UI, it is the best there is. I would be happy if it was put back. It is not very nice to remove an application when there is no replacement ready.
