Bug Description

When installing ubuntu without a network connection the hostname is not set in /etc/hosts. Thereafter sudo breaks when trying gethostbyname. Solution is to start in rescue mode and edit /etc/hosts like:
127.0.0.1 localhost myhostname

Not sure if I picked the right part of the installer, but this should bring it to the attention of our installer guru.

I bet you went back to the installer main menu and skipped the netcfg step. (If so, don't do that; tell netcfg to not configure a network at this time instead.)

This seems to be a duplicate of bug 19775. If you have any information as to what part of the installation you might have skipped, could you please add the information to that bug?

Thanks.

I'm not convinced about this being a duplicate of bug 19775. What did /etc/hosts look like before you edited it?

The /etc/hosts contained only this entry:

127.0.0.1 localhost

I removed Ubuntu after playing with it for a while, so I can't check this up. There may have been more to this entry like localhost.domain. But I remember that only one entry followed the IP-address with no white space within the entry.
