Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

This is the output from the dist upgrade. I followed the directions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/JauntyUpgrades/Kubuntu

It starts then this message comes up.

W:Failed to fetch http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/partner/source/Sources.bz2 Hash Sum mismatch
, E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

The 'Hash sum mismatch' warning is reproducible simply by enabling the partner archive on jaunty and running apt-get update.

The Sources and Sources.bz2 files are definitely mismatched. I can fix this using archive administrator privileges, and will do before release no matter what - but I'd like to hear from the Soyuz developers first on why this happened in the first place, since I'm concerned that otherwise it might just recur later.

Celso tells me that this is because the partner archive switched to a new (faster) index file generation system that no longer produces bzip2 index files, but nobody dealt with removing the old index files that had been generated under the old system and so they just sat around getting stale. I've now removed the bzip2 index files that were causing trouble, and once this propagates to the visible archive.canonical.com (should be within half an hour or so from this message) that will fix the upgrade problems.

The Soyuz bug remains open, as it would be good for the new system to support bzip2 index files.

It shouldn't be hard to extend the index publication code to generate bz2 versions.
