Bug Description

This report applies to evolution package 2.5.92-0ubuntu1.

While editing my IMAP account properties, Evolution lets me select connection encryption type under the "Security" heading on the "Receiving Email" tab.

The problem is, if I choose SSL or TLS encryption, Evolution attempts to connect to my mail server on port 143. Many IMAP servers are configured to offer TLS/SSL connections on server port 993 (imaps).

Since this version of Evolution does not allow me to specify the IMAP port it should connect to, and since it does not use port 993 when 143 is closed, I cannot check my email.

Interesting - I could change the encryption option all I wanted while in evolution, and it continually tried to connect to port 143. Each time, I would close the account window.

BUT! Once I restarted evolution, it connected to the correct port. Go figure.

The problem seems to be with evolution not applying settings when you would expect. If you follow this process:

1. CLick "OK" in the Account Editor.
2. Click "Close" in the Evolution Preferences window.
3. Restart evolution.

...everything works and evo connects to the correct port.

Has any progress been made on this since 2008? I am trying to use Evolution for gmail using IMAP. I would like to just be able to set the port.

Matt - set the port you wish to use, apply your settings, restart Evolution, and things will work fine.

The bug is that custom port settings don't take effect until a restart.
