Bug Description

Binary package hint: eeepc-acpi-scripts

As all acpi signals for the eeepc can be handled by the linux kernel in the standard way, this package is not needed anymore.

The only remaining bit to solve is having ubuntu load the eeepc_laptop module when running on an eeepc.

This will also solve bug #262679 and avoid confusing users.

I agree! While once essential, trying to run acpid on my EeePC has caused me nothing but misery in 9.10. It's impossible to debug problems with ACPID because HAL is trying to replicate almost all of the same things. I'm happy to say that everything works fine without ACPID

The volume control buttons are entirely handled in-kernel? Video output selection is handled entirely in-kernel? Launching a task manager (or top in a terminal window or on the console) is handled entirely in-kernel?

Also, HAL is deprecated. It'll take a while before it goes away completely, though the process is very definitely under way; code is being adapted to use libudev. (You lot will see X evdev using this in 10.4, if you've not seen it already, and I've adapted gxine to use it where available.)

And we have oddness with (at least) one event being reported for two different keys on two different models, as well as *different* events for the same two keys (depending on the kernel etc.; exact circumstances are not yet determined, but if you have any useful input, debian-eeepc-devel@l.a.d.o awaits).

eeepc-acpi-scripts – or whatever is used instead, if it's to properly handle EeePC-specific stuff – needs to cope with this kind of thing. (I happen to be working on this particular problem; it'll probably be fixed in 1.1.5.)

It would be better if you help us (Debian EeePC devs) make this work alongside acpi-support.

You have right ! but under 10.04 my kernel -> http://forum.ubuntu.pl/showpost.php?p=768402&postcount=826 working grat with ACPI (all FN and special on/off touchpad working), but in 10.10 i can NOT !!! turn on all ACPI eg. touchpad on/off not working ... and on generic kernel You couldn`t load eeepc_lapto = no such device hehe lameriada !

Please roll this either as extra cases into the old-but-trusty 'acpi-support' package; or into the newer udev/kernel setups. eXt73: if your system is not working out of the box, please file a separate bug report specifically about each of those two issues.
