Hi Brian,

I see you reported this bug a while ago but it was only recently assigned to the proper "linux (Ubuntu)" kernel package. It's important to make sure bugs are reported against a specific package to help ensure that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage .

That being said, I'm curious if this is still an issue for you? Could you test the most recent pre-release of Jaunty 9.04, currently Alpha 6 - http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/ . You should be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know. Thanks.

I can confirm that I see this bug as well in Intrepid on a Dell Latitude D600. It affects other power related function keys (the D600 has a fn key with a battery that prompts the power applet to display battery statistics) but does not affect others like volume, screenshot, etc. so I suspect this may be more related to gnome-power-manager. Also, this problem does not occur when adjusting the brightness via the applet's slider.

I dont know how to do it. I use the automatic update every time it is
available. Is there any instruction to follow to install that
particular patch ? Thank you

check "pre-released updates (hardy proposed)"

then close, run update manager, if it does not find a new kernel, then go to
synpatic and update sources.

best of luck, it took me (dell inspirion 1150) about 10 kernel updates to
fix, while some people were fixed by some of the intermediate kernel
updates.

thanks,
