Bug Description

According to carlos it is possible to import/export .po files with variants, but there is no interface to reach them yet.

For the blender project, a Serbian Latin translation has been submitted upstream, but the current maintainers can't read the language. This is a problem with several other languages too, so a better solution might be to leverage rosetta translation teams and not arbitrarily accept/reject contributed translations. It would be nice if all languages were supported before that move.

Note that upcoming ca@valencia translations are going to suffer from this as well.

The en_AU translation should be derived from en_GB, but with some small changes. This is currently not possible, and we really don't want to have to duplicate work.

William, that's a different issue than the one we are reporting here.

A variant is a language like sr@Latn, for your concrete case, you are talking more of a 'derivation'.

The solutions are completely different because sr and sr@Latn are not reusing translations from each other.

Please, file a new bug about that concrete feature. It's something we will want to implement.

Has there been any progress on this? We need both derivatives (de_DE and de_DE informal) and variants (like the ones mentioned here).

Bortis: you can import new translations with "variants", but they won't show up in the UI. We'll soon be fixing this though.
