package download not re-started

Bug Description

When synaptic is downloading a package and loses the connection it doesn't try to re-establish it.

I'm on a dial-up connection, so it's not unusual for the remote server to close the connection when I'm downloading large packages. I see this especially with wine from the wine.sf.net/apt repository.

Rather than having to manually restart the download, I would like synaptic to be able to do it.

I suppose that synaptic is mostly using the apt-get command for downloading, so I searched the bug lists for both apt and synaptic before filing this bug. I went ahead and filed it with synaptic because that's where the problem is visible to me.

Thanks!

You will have to hit the "Apply" button again after a failure and synaptic will restart at the point where it had stopped the download. A automatic retry is currently not implemented.

Last comment is 2 years old and still there is no automatic retry. Maybe developers don't think this is a good idea? If so this bug should be closed.
