Bug Description
To reproduce:
Start Thunderbird and use it normally: browse email, write messages, work with Tasks and Calendar
Expected behavior:
Everything works normally; screen responds to user input and redraws accordingly
Actual behavior:
The application window frequently freezes and no longer responds to user input, then unfreezes again. User input made while the window was frozen still gets processed, indicating it seems to be a redraw issue. These freezes happen unpredictably and are quite frequent. They typically last for a few seconds. This issue is frequent enough to render Thunderbird almost unusable.
Versions:
Ubuntu MATE 22.04, upgraded from 20.04 (and previously from 18.04, 16.04, 15.10 and possibly one or two LTS versions before that). Thunderbird version is currently 102.4.2.
Further information:
I have had this issue pretty much since I upgraded from 20.04, which was about two months ago. Before the upgrade everything was fine.
I have configured Thunderbird to access an IMAP mailbox, as well as a CalDAV/CardDAV server. The latter is on my LAN and not available when I am on the road. Behavior does not seem to change when I am at home vs. on the road.
Let me know if you need further information on my configuration.
Any news on this? The issue still persists on my side.
It seems the freeze occurs whenever a network operation is in progress. I can reliably provoke it by e.g. marking a task complete (which should trigger a request to the CalDAV server). Other times the reason for Thunderbird freezing up is less clear, it may be a request being made to the IMAP server.
Thunderbird version is still at 102.4.2.
