Bug Description

I think Nautilus CD burner must shows anytime the total size of the files to be
burned.

This info can be obtained using the "File -> Write to disc..." option, i.e. when
the user is ready to burn his/her files. Another way to obtain this info is by
selecting all the files and go to "File -> Properties" option.

I think both the two above methods has a poor usability. I think the best is to
have that info clearly visible in all moment, maybe in the rightmost place of
the status bar.

By the way, I think there must be an option in the Nautilus CD burner to easily
change the default CD size: 650/700/800 MB.

It should indeed indicate the totally selected space somewhere, and it sould be possible to select 650/700/800 MB, or 4.7/9.0 B (or actually 4.4 and 8.x, I don't know the exact values) for DVD's.
And if possible at all, automatically select the value corresponding to the empty medium inserted.

Maybe a stupid question, but does it make sense to fix this as nautilus-cd-burner is replaced by Brasero is new Gnome?

I'm not sure David, because my system freeze completely when I insert a disc (bug 74372) and I can't check :(

Release notes for Gnome 2.26 (http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/2.26/#rnusers.brasero) says that the old interface is still available, but default app is now Brasero. So it's your call.

In Jaunty (GNOME 2.26) we have the CD/DVD Creator in the applications menu. It doesn't show the total size of files. This is not nautilus-cd-burner, I think it is Brasero though it is still in nautilus.

Brasero replaced nautilus-cd-burner on Gnome 2.26 is this still an issue with that? Could somebody interested on the feature open an upstream bug report about it? Thanks.

Yes, this is definitely an issue in Jaunty (GNOME 2.26.1).
The upstream bug says the size should be shown in the status bar (which it does do _if_ you select all the files), however I think the total size should be far more prominent. Graphically showing the percentage of space left on the CD or DVD would be excellent.

This is definitely a problem, as I've had a friend ask 'How do I tell if the disk is full?'.

Maybe even something like Banshee does?

Maybe like put a bar like the one that appears when doing the partitions on the Ubuntu installation process, looks excellent and could give and a idea of how much space is empty and how much not, also a plus could be to include the hability to detect what is being inserted on the disk so the same bar could display it (like in Itunes when is modifying the Ipod information).

This bar could be on the bottom of the window, should be resizable when the window size changes and it's a very clever thing to make the person know how much space has left before burn the disk :D

Chris Wilson, your screenshot is from brasero when you burn a audio cd with brasero, that has nothing to do with the original bug.

Closing the nautilus-cd-burner task, because this package is not in our archive any more. In GNOME it is tracked as a Brasero bug, affecting component nautilus-extension.

I can confirm your wish. If Brasero is also in Ubuntu the correct package, please mark the bug from Low to Wishlist in priority.
