Glance image fails to build when raw snapshots are enabled

Bug Description

Hi,

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 with the focal-wallaby cloud archive, using Juju charms 21.04.

When I try to use raw images with the default settings booting a VM fails with the following underlying error:

  2021-06-21 00:55:05.655 111505 ERROR oslo_messaging.rpc.server [req-0a116537-880b-4f79-8621-f1ca0c75f61b 44cb8cf737260970b563ead095ca2656ed73534574090485fd44c1ae4f219c90 ad0fb8c3d7ad49cdbf29981676d3673f - - -] Exception during message handling: rbd.InvalidArgument: [errno 22] RBD invalid argument (error creating clone)

When I then set the following (possibly some aren't required), it works:

  juju config glance api-config-flags='show_image_direct_url=false'
  juju config glance registry-config-flags='show_image_direct_url=false'
  juju config glance expose-image-locations=false

After some investigation I found this post - http://lists.openstack.org/pipermail/openstack-discuss/2021-April/022129.html - which references some fixes that may be relevant.

Please let me know if you need any further information, or there is any testing I can do.

I'm pretty sure this is an upstream Ceph (Pacific) problem. See bug 1931004.

Darn it, that looks exactly like what I'm seeing. Apparently my google-fu failed me, it didn't turn up in any of my searches. I've subscribed to that bug, I'll keep working around it until there's a fix in cloud-archive I guess.

I see the bug is fixed in upstream now - https://bugs.launchpad.net/cinder/+bug/1931004 - I expect it will trickle down to cloud-archive at some point.
