MAAS controller network GUI is terribly slow with lots of SR-IOV VFs configured

Bug Description
I have a deployment of MAAS 2.9 with 4 SR-IOV PFs configured on the controller nodes, each PF has 64 VFs enabled.
If I click on the dropdown menu on a physical interface it appears after several seconds. CPU usage raises up to 100% while the menu is loading.
Tested on Chromium and Firefox.
