Bug Description

I am using the xmonad window manager, which does tiling of windows. In OOo, when I open a file chooser, the chooser gets managed like a normal window, which usually means the window I'm working in suddenly takes up half the screen and the other half is taken up by the chooser. Which is very annoying.

In e.g. Firefox, the file chooser gets put in the floating layer automatically because it is marked as transient. Evidently OOo's file choosers are not marked as transient - they should be.

This bug should be filed against the openoffice.org package, but trying to add it as "Also affects package" give the error: "This bug is already open on Ubuntu with no package specified. You should fill in a package name for the existing bug."

Confirmed, if I understand this correctly the fact that it shows up in gnome taskbar twice is an symptom of the issue, apps like gedit only show one item even if the open dialog is visible. The upstream version does this correctly so it is most likely a bug in the gnome dialog from ooo-build.

Actually it is upstream's bug, but they just don't default to using the gnome fpicker even when running on gnome.

this is a openoffice problem, not a ubuntu bug.

i believe that problem is a incompartivility whit a old kernel version.

To be clear, is this fixed in Jaunty? It certainly isn't in Intrepid.

And I find it hard to believe a problem with the file chooser has anything to do with the kernel. Unless you mean the version of OOo that fixes the bug happens to be incompatible with said kernel.

Peter,

Can you check to see if the openoffice.org 3.0 in the openoffice-pkgs ppa fixes the issue for you. I think it should have fixed the problem. If so then this will be fixed in Jaunty as well once openoffice.org 3.0 has finished building there.

Thanks,

Chris

That would require installing Intrepid, which I'm not prepared to do yet. I'll wait till release and see how it is then.

The ppa also has a build of OOo 3.0.0 for Hardy now.

Oops, I obviously meant I didn't want to install Jaunty. Anyway, the PPA version packaged for Intrepid has the bug fixed.
