Bug Description

I have a problem on DELL Precision 7740 (laptop) related to suspend/resume. Here the steps to produce the bug:
1) suspend
2) unplug the AC power cord
3) try to resume : the computer does not resume, but the keyboard is lighted

Tested on Kubuntu 18.04 (updated), Dell Bios updated, and with several Kernels: 4.9, 4.14, 4.15, 4.18, 5.3., 5.6

A similar bug affects a large range of Dell laptops:
- Dell 5480/5488 :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-sputnik/+bug/1866343
- Dell E5470 :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-sputnik/+bug/1661741
(Note that the bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-sputnik/+bug/1661741 is not fixed; it has been changed, by error, to fixed. Please, it will be nice if somebody can change the status to "confirmed")

I suppose that DELL Precision 7730 is also affected.

@Pinet,

1. What is the Switchable Graphic setting on the BIOS in your system?
Please go to BIOS menu and check "VIDEO->Switchable Graphics"

2. Does your system has AMD GPU or NVIDIA GPU?

followed #1, this is the BIOS setting for machines shipped with preloaded Ubuntu for reference: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Dell/Precision/Precision-7730

Kent, Alex, thank you very much for your help.

I have just updated the bios with the version 1.8.2 published today for 7740 on the Dell Website. Now the syspend-resume process works correctly in any situation. Definitively, a bios issue, I guess.

I am going to check if all is okay over the next days.

@Kent: I have Nvidia driver 435. The resume problem was both with switchable graphic enabled and disabled. It occurred when Nvidia card was used, but also when Intel card was used (nvidia-prime was used to change the used card on nvidia-settings, when switchable graphic was enabled in the Bios).
